December 1999 Archive
...MEGADETH has joined the dozens of other artists that have cancelled their New Year's Eve gig (theirs was in their hometown of Phoenix, Arizona). According to the band's management, less-than-stellar ticket sales were not the problem ... but that's what they all say. The real fact of the matter is this: For New Year's Eve 1999 - 2000, all bets are off. Even the deified BARBRA STREISAND hasn't sold out her two shows in Las Vegas. No news on what Megadeth will do instead but - if we had to guess - maybe they'll show up at ALICE COOPER's party at his Alice Cooperstown bar and grill (that's where we'd be if we were closer to Phoenix)...
...Tunes by the following bands will appear on the upcoming soundtrack to "Scream 3": CREED; SEVENDDUST; POWERMAN 5000; INCUBUS; STATIC-X; COAL CHAMBER; GODSMACK; STAIND; FINGER ELEVEN; FULL DEVIL JACKET; SLIPKNOT; SYSTEM OF A DOWN and maybe FUEL. The soundtrack will hit stores on January 25th, about a week before the film opens...
...Rockumentary film fans will remember PENELOPE SPHEERIS as the director who immortalized punk and heavy metal - as well as some of us fans - in the feature films "The Decline of Western Civilization I and II." Last year, Ms. Spheeris turned her cameras on the OzzFest and immortalized still more. Her OzzFest film, which contains not only live performances but the usual (or, in Spheeris' case, unusual) goings-on behind and around the stage, opens early next year. The film will be released in theaters in a tour that will also include live performances by OzzFest-type bands. But there's a problem - as of now, the film doesn't have a name. So Ozzy and Spheeris want YOU to name it. Think hard and sent your suggested title to ozzy@artistdirect.com. Remember, this isn't an Ozzy and/or Black Sabbath tribute film; it's a cinematic event designed to capture the full flavor of the event known as OzzFest, so come up with a name that's appropriate. (Yes, "The Decline of Western Civilization 3" is already taken)...
...KNAC.COM is giving away three autographed, original drawings by GLENN DANZIG to those who enter a special contest at http://www.knac.com. To enter, contestants must put themselves in the mind of Glenn Danzig and describe what he's thinking, what he's doing and what he's feeling. Winners will be announced on January 11th in KNAC.COMs magazine and in the KNAC.COM newsletter...

...LOVE/HATE frontman JIZZY PEARL has put pen to paper and done what every other celebrity in town seems to be doing these days: wrote a book. What's different about Jizzy's book is that that book, in Jizzy's own words, has "no redeeming social value, whatsoever. It's like reading Little Women only the Little Women are wearing nipple clips. I tried to write a serious profound novel and failed miserably." The book, entitled "I've Got More Crickets Than Friends," is available through Jizzy's website at http://www.kingjizzo.com...
