...Vocalist ANDRE MATOS, bassist LUIS MARIUTTI
and drummer RICARDO CONFESSORI have left ANGRA. However,
guitarists RAFAEL BITTENCOURT and KIKO LOUREIRO are currently writing the band's next studio album and are also auditioning new members. The guitarists have issued the following
(long-winded but important to Angra fans) statement:
"Dear Friends,
This has been a tough moment. We feel sorry for what's happening and for the involvement of so many people, even though we still believe things will be sorted out. We're not here to judge the attitude of our former bandmates. All we can do is communicate the facts from our perspective. We have recently been notified of their decision to "abandon the ship." Troubles? We would be lying if we denied their existence. We have some administrative problems, which are already being solved accordingly. The group members had different views about the way to face such problems. Some were thinking about solutions that could bring better results for the group; the others gave up and left. After nine years, we do think its pretty natural to have problems. Very strange it would be if there weren't! What hurts us the most is the fact that we didn't build enough of a bond among ourselves to face them together, as adults. We truly believed that no disagreement should harm the important body of work we had built together. Due to that, we were excluded from all decisions of the band since the end of last year. They simply refused to listen to what we had to say, which was the importance of the five sticking together. There are always good chances of a satisfactory conclusion. When we talk, we show respect for the different opinions.
Unfortunately, in this case, there was neither talking nor respect! We feel for the fans and for all of those who are in some way involved with us. Why force the fans to divide their feelings among the members? Why is it so hard to accept that people sometimes do have different opinions? Discussions always lead us to good conclusions and evolution. We won't spit on the Angra name, throwing it away as if it was an old toy. For us, it's all about moral principles, professionalism and respect to the fans.
We are ready for our future and to give to our fans another part of our hearts and souls. Everyone in this band, with no exceptions, has made mistakes of the same proportion throughout the years. After all, we are human beings and perfection will never be a human gift. But all of us should be ready to accept our own mistakes. By doing so, we're moving forward into a new era. Renewed, stronger and re-structured. The essence of what Angra was resided in the chemistry between the five members, not within one, two or three. But the love of the fans is the seed and we shall continue sowing it in the fertile grounds of good music, watering it with our passion for our duties. We wish all the best for our friends, and hope one day this moment of madness can be left behind in favor of all the special moments we've been through together. Thank you all very much for the support that has been given to us this far.
Kindly,
Rafael Bittencourt and Kiko Loureiro"

PANTERA...
...ASPHYX has disbanded. According to drummer Bob Bagchus: "The reason of this statement is that after 13 years Asphyx has decided to stop! We know, we've said it before, but now it's for real! The main reason for this final decision is that our guitar-player, Eric Daniels, cannot combine the band with his job any longer. He had serious problems combining things, couldn't give 100% to the band any longer, frustration kept growing and so he decided that it was better to stop completely. So we (Bob and Wannes) have decided to stop it as well. On The Wings Of Inferno is a brilliant farewell album. Maybe we will do something new in the future, with Eric, but not under the name Asphyx. But after all we are musicians, so we will see... We would like to thank our fans for their great endless support! You guys rule! Thanks and take care!"

In other NEVERMORE news, guitarist TIM CALVERT has left the band. "Dead Heart in a Dead World" is due on October 17th...
...RYKER have also hung up
their guitars. According to bassist Chris:
"We are going to call it quits. Our last two Ryker's shows will be on Saturday, September 30th in Leipzig (Conne Island) and the final blast will be - of course - in Kassel (Akku - Immenhausen) on October 7th, 2000! There are some good reasons for breaking up at last: We simply don't have the time anymore to give 100 % of our energy to Ryker's. Meff has to take care of his own Tattoo-Shop (Today/Tomorrow/Forever in Braunschweig) and his little daughter. I have to take care of my label (Kingfisher Records) and of all the bands signed to the label. Grobi and Kid are keeping themselves fairly busy with other things as well. The band was always too important for us to just let it become some kind of "Joke", a "Weekend-Band" or something like that - so we figured it would be better for everybody to quit completely right now! In the last couple of years we've seen a lot of things change in the Hardcore scene... it's different now - but we still love HARDCORE! Still, we've been seeing a lot of bands around and we really wished that they had call it quits years ago instead of ruining their name and reputation. Also, Ryker's was always based on true friendship and therefore we are not going to search for new members to replace somebody! We are not saying "This will be our last show FOREVER!" - why should we do so? If we find the time to play some special show (somewhere and sometime) we may still do it, or we may not... Whatever. We really hope that you will understand our reasons and accept our decision. Thanxxx to all of you for your endless support throughout the years - we had a fuckin' great time. We will always remember what we reached and built together, FOREVER!!!
Best Wishes
Chris
