...Koch Records will re-release the classic debut album by BADLANDS on June 26th. This CD has earned almost legendary status over the years with the band's line-up of Jake E. Lee, Eric Singer, Greg Chaisson, and Ray Gillen forming together to create one of hard rock's most underrated releases of all time. ...Famed bassist BILLY SHEEHAN will release his first solo album, "Compression" on August 21st on Favored Nations records. Sheehan composed all of the songs on the album and handles all vocals and instrumentation, including bass, baritone 12-string guitar and drum programming. Joining Sheehan are Terry Bozzio and Steve Vai. Says Vai, "Billy is the greatest rock bass player that ever tread the planet. With Billy now singing himself on his new CD he proves the same artistic control by crafting hard-hitting yet melodic rock songs with metalish elegance."...
...HAREM SCAREM have resurfaced and signed with Now & Then /
Frontiers Records. The label, in order to "clear up any confusion and hearsay that has spread on this one" has released the
following facts regarding the new signing:
1. Harem Scarem have just signed a two album deal with Now & Then / Frontiers. The contract was
officially signed only last week which is why the announcement wasn't made earlier.
2. The line up will be: Harry Hess (Vocals, guitars, keys), Pete Lesperance (guitars, keys) Barry
Donaghy (bass) and Creighton Doane (drums).
3. The style will mark a return to their earlier melodic rock albums. The band is not intending to
record "Mood Swings Part Two," but will endeavor to make an album which reflects the
style that made them one of the most popular and important melodic hard rock bands of the past ten years.
4. Writing for the new album begins this week, with recording to
follow in due course.
5. Release is expected to be in Spring 2002...
...SAVANNAH has re-signed with Now & Then / Frontiers and will release a new album in early 2002. According to the band: "We're really excited about working with a label of this caliber and history. We feel that our merger will be both productive and beneficial for all parties involved! We are looking forward to having Now & Then/Frontiers take us to the next level. This is definitely the highest point for Savannah and we are going to record our best record yet..."
...HEAVENLY have completed the recording of their second album and the band recently went into the studio where the final mix will be done by TOMMY HANSEN (HELLOWEEN, PRETTY MAIDS). The title of the new album is "Sign of the Winner" and it's due in stores on September 3rd...
...WHITE TRASH THIRD GENERATION have completed their three song demo, which includes the songs "Incomplete," "Make Me Sick" and "S.O.B." The band is currently sending the demo out to those it calls "Satan's Puppies" (the record companies) and are hoping to draw the attention they deserve...

...STEVE VAI will release "Alive in an Ultra World" on June 19th. The live recording was entirely written, rehearsed and recorded during Vai's 32 country "Ultra Zone" tour and contains compositions that were created specifically to reflect elements of the traditional music of the cultures Vai toured. That's a lot of culture after researching over 150 ethnic albums and playing 104 shows. Says Vai in the album liner notes, "Sequestering myself with traditional music from various countries of the world and writing an album based on their cultures, and recording the songs in these exotic countries was a life long fantasy of mine. When the temptation and the incessant daydreams reached an uncontrollable peak, the construction of this record became a reality."...

...LES CLAYPOOL and his FROG BRIGADE will release the second set of their live recordings - appropriately entitled "Live Frogs - Set 2," on July 24th through his own Prawn Song label. The new CD will be devoted entirely to the classic PINK FLOYD album, "Animals." Says Claypool: "Nothing was more haunting to a prepubescent kid of those days than the sound of the squealing pig at the beginning of the aptly titled 'Pigs.' The 'Animals' record is one of those albums that I've purchased multiple times over the years, and the aforementioned 'Pigs' is a song that I've always dreamed of performing given the right instrumentation. In the summer of 2000, I put together a little group called the Frog Brigade. With the Brigade, I had the instrumentation I needed to perform the tune. As we started learning 'Pigs,' I realized that we could take it one step further and actually play the album in its entirety." FROG BRIGADE will tour later this year.
