...GAMMA RAY's KAI HANSEN, stricken by throat problems severe enough for his doctor to advise him to take it easy, has been forced to step down from several shows. However, in an effort to prevent more cancellations, the band is hoping to convince vocalists from STEEL PROPHET or EDGUY to step in for a few dates of the tour with Hansen stepping in for encores - if he's up to it...


...Curiously, the Costume Institute of The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum in Cleveland will celebrate the impact of classic rock'n'roll performers and their pervasive influence on fashion with a black-tie dinner and dance. Does anybody else see the irony here?...


...Leviathan Records has announced the availability of SHOOTING HEMLOCK's CD, "Clockwatcher." ...GODSMACK's self-titled album has been certified Gold. The band, whose success seems to continue mushrooming, have already enjoyed radio success (with their first single, "Whatever"), a "Buzzworthy" clip on MTV, and nomination in four categories for the Boston Music Awards. The band will appear this summer on the Ozzfest Tour and will perform live on "Late Night With Conan O'Brien" on April 30th. Click here to read our review of their terrific CD...


...In celebration of the 30th Anniversary of Woodstock, MCA Records will release "JIMI HENDRIX: Live AT Woodstock" on July 6, 1999. The 2-CD set includes 35 minutes of previously unreleased music and new liner notes by David Fricke. The set will also be available on cassette and vinyl and will be released in tandem with new video and DVD releases. Re-mixed and remastered from the original tapes by Eddie Kramer (who was hired in 1969 to record the original Woodstock festival) the set also includes a 24 page booklet with the above-mentioned liner notes and photographs...


...Plans are underway to re-issue the CELTIC FROST catalog, including all the original artwork, lyrics, credits, bonus tracks, etc. Reports have it that the band wants the fans to have some quality product, as opposed to previous re-releases that, well, didn't live up to expectations...

The show that evening will be headlined by FOUR DEGREES KELVIN, a band we haven't heard but have heard much about. ...GAMMA RAY's "Powerplant" is burning up the international charts. The album entered the German Top 100 at the number 25 position and the Japanese charts at #35. "Powerplant" also scored the #3 position on the Canadian HMV Superstore Charts and will enter the Swedish Charts next week at #51. ...VIRGIN STEELE are in the studio, recording "The House of Atreus," which has been described as a two-act heavy metal opera, based on the famous plays by Aeschlyus. The opera itself will debut on June 1st in Germany although Act I of the album won't be released until September. Act II will follow sometime next year. In addition, "Guardians of Flame" will be re-released with other fire-related songs including two new songs entitled "The Fire God" and "The Conjuration of the Watcher." The re-release will be entitled "The Book of Burning" and will hit stores in September. In addition, the band plans on releasing a live album within the next two years...


...Woodstock 99, The 30th Anniversary celebration of the original legendary concert event, will be held on July 23rd to 25th, 1999 at Griffiss Park in Rome, New York. The lineup includes Aerosmith, Bush, The Chemical

...KISS has cancelled three live dates in Russia, shows that would have marked their first performance there ever. Reportedly, the band felt that - due to the NATO airstrikes taking place in Yugoslavia - there was a risk of danger both to the band and to fans attending the shows. No word yet as to when or even whether those dates will be re-scheduled...
