...On April 3, 1999, dc Talk are going digital - in more way than one. The band will take questions from backstage at Market Square Arena in Indianapolis (at http://www.talkcity.com). In addition, the band is accepting photos of fans for possible inclusion in the "Supernatural" slideshow that will occur during the TalkCity chat. ...GRINSPOON has nabbed a spot on the Warped Tour this summer. The band, whose full-length CD "Guide to Better Living" hit stores on March 9th, will play the entire U.S. Warped Tour which kicks off in late June...


...The original members of BAD COMPANY will tour the U.S. beginning June 24th in support of their 2 CD box set, "The Original" which just hit stores. But be careful if you plan on catching a BAD COMPANY show. Reportedly, a former lead singer of the band may tour with his own band - possibly in the same areas at the same time. by the way, "The Original" CD features 27 of the band's greatest hits, two unreleased songs and four new songs. ...When GODSMACK lead vocalist Sully Erna dove into the audience during a live performance in Ft. Myers, Florida recently, the last thing he expected was that he couldn't get back to the stage. That was the case, however, as a security guard apparently didn't recognize Erna and attempted to drag him away. After a war of words, Erna decided to take harsher action and punched the guard, knocking him cold. He then re-joined the rest of the band - who hadn't missed a note - and finished the performance. As of yet, no charges have been filed...


...Fresh Blood band the CLAYMORDS will perform live at the Garage in Bergen this Saturday, March 27th, 1999. Why are we listing it here? ...Here's one way to bring in the new year: Join METALLICA and TED NUGENT at the Pontiac Silverdome. The two superpowers of hard rock/heavy metal announced recently that they will join forces in Pontiac, Michigan for a New Year's Eve show to end all New Year's Eve Show. Metallica's Jason Newsted said, "This show has a lot of sentimental value to me. I'm very proud to be playing the biggest place in my home state on the biggest day of the century. It's an honor to be on the same stage with Ted Nugent, who was one of my heroes growing up as a musician in Michigan in the 70s." Nugent added, "For those who believe that the Year 2000 is the beginning of an era, not the end of the world, what better way to celebrate than with Metallica, the Defiant One, and his buffalo. Y2K this!" Tickets go on sale Saturday, October 23 at Ticketmaster outlets and the Pontiac Silverdome Box Office. Additional "surprise" artists will be annoucned soon...


...GAMMA RAY's "Powerplanet" will be in stores on March 29th. Included in the new release is a cover of the PET SHOP BOYS "It's a Sin." ...MARILYN MANSON slipped and fell during the band's Los Angeles live appearance this past Saturday. During a performance of the song "Rock Is Dead," Manson apparently slipped on a small platform and injured his foot, perhaps even broke it. Photographer Lou Moreau was at the show and said that Manson "just sort of fell forward, then stayed down." A short time afterwards, a group of people came out and carried him backstage. The show - only into its fifth or sixth song - was cancelled...


...As if a potentially broken foot wasn't enough, HOLE voice Courtney Love announced that same evening that HOLE was leaving the tour. According to Lou, Courtney announced that HOLE was leaving the MANSON/HOLE tour because "We've had enough..."


...Paul Stanley of KISS will step into the role that made Michael Crawford famous (and rich) when he takes over as "The Phantom of the Opera" for ten weeks. Stanley is one of several "guest" stars who will take over the role of the Phantom during the incredibly popular Broadway play's last few weeks in New York. Currently viewable but still under construction, http://www.mikehartman.com will ultimately feature information about Hartman's Washburn guitar clinic tour, what he's been doing since he parted ways with David Lee Roth, news about his new album, "Black Glue," a gear page, an album bio and lots of pictures. Hartman is one amazing musician, and you'll be able to read more about him soon in an upcoming Rough Edge interview...


...Rhino Records has chosen April 20th as the date to make fans of veteran rocker ALICE COOPER delirious with anticipation. It's on this date that Rhino will release "Alice Cooper's Welcome to My Nightmare" on video and DVD as well as the long-awaited 4 CD collection, "The Life And Crimes of Alice Cooper." The video/DVD release features Cooper performing live during a 1975 performance, originally filmed for theatrical release. The DVD also includes an alternate commentary track by Cooper, a new interview, and a memorabilia and trivia game. The video is priced at $14.99; the DVD at $19.99. ...Maverick Records will release the soundtrack to the new Keanu Reeves film, "The Matrix." Included on the CD are MARILYN MANSON's "Rock is Dead," a new track from MINISTRY, a never before available Hot Rod Herman Remix of ROB ZOMBIE's "Dragula," and tracks from PRODIGY, DEFTONES, RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, MONSTER MAGNET, RAMMSTEIN, PROPELLERHEADS, ROB D, MEAT BEAT MANIFESTO, LUNATIC CALM and HIVE.  The soundtrack will be released on March 30 with the film opening on March 31st...


...JIM STEINMAN, the master songwriter who's composed for MEAT LOAF, BONNIE TYLER and CELINE DION (not to mention his own album several years ago) is keeping busy. "No Matter What," a collaboration between Steinman and ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER, will appear on the debut album by BOYZONE due in March on Steinman's own Ravenous Records. In addition, Steinman recently composed the entire score for Roman Polanski's Vienna-based musical "Dance of the Vampires" and is set to go to work on the big budget stage musical version of "Batman"...


...One of our favorite new metal acts, SHANGO (click here to read our reviews of their spectacular "Metal Mafia" CD), will be joining the March Metal Meltdown on March 13 in Asbury Park, NJ. If you live anywhere near there - don't miss it. The band will has followed a number of other dates (click here for dates) that they plan on following with a national tour this spring. Hopefully that tour will bring them to the West Coast (C'mon, Shango! We're waiting!)...


...OZZY OSBOURNE. COAL CHAMBER. PETER GABRIEL. What do they have in common? If you guessed "Shock the Monkey," you'd guess right. Ozzy, the veteran godfather of heavy metal will enter the studios with red hot Coal Chamber this week to record their combined version of the Gabriel hit. The track will appear on Coal Chamber's follow-up to their 1997 self-titled Roadrunner Records release. The CD, entitled "Chamber Music" will be released in June 1999...


...GODSMACK have been nominated for the Kahlua Boston Music Awards in four categories: Rising Star; Outstanding Debut Rock Band; Single of the Year ("Whatever") and Debut Album of the Year (click here to read our review). The band will also perform "Whatever" during the Awards show, scheduled for April 22nd at the Orpheum Theater in Boston. In addition, GODSMACK join the Ozzfest from June 3 through July 17...


...Action star STEVEN SEAGAL is currently in production - not on a new movie but rather on his debut CD. The martial arts master is working with producer Ray Ruff who says, "A lot of people are going to be real surprised when they hear this album. Steven is one of the finest guitarists I've ever recorded and his writing is even better. This collection of blues, swamp and Southern rock is complemented by a couple of the most evocative ballads I've ever heard. I feel very privileged to be helping Steven realize a great album. I believe a lot of people in the music business are going to be taken by Steven's talents and fans worldwide are going to enjoy what is a truly remarkable record." Of course, what is Ruff gonna say? Would you tell Steven Seagal that his album sucked? (In all seriousness, Seagal has contributed a couple of songs to soundtracks of his films and they weren't half bad.) A documentary of Seagal's foray into music will also be released...


...An Ivy League music professor is suing SMASHING PUMPKINS alleging that he has hearing loss in his left ear and ringing in both ears as a result of the band's January 25, 1997 performance. He claims that earplugs did not protect him from the excessive volume...
