Grammy voters gave the gold trophy to BLACK SABBATH for their rendition of "Iron Man" from the "Reunion" CD. METALLICA won the award for hard rock performance with "Whiskey in the Jar" off of "Garage, Inc."...

By the way, in other Grammy news, ZEBRAHEAD were added to the nomination for Best Metal Performance along with MOTORHEAD for their rendition of METALLICA's "Enter Sandman." Seems that some of the Motorheaders couldn't make the recording session so Zebrahead was called in for musical support. Hence, the nomination will now read "Motorhead with Zebrahead." And that's a lot of 'head...

...Wanna guitar lesson from the legendary ANGUS YOUNG of AC/DC? You can get one. Just be the high bidder for the lesson on eBay (http://www.ebay.com). So far, the high bid is over $8,000 and all proceeds go to the Nordhoff-Robbins Music Therapy Foundation. The auction also includes a listening party and tickets to an AC/DC show. The band's new CD, "Stiff Upper Lip," is due on February 29th...

...DEEP PURPLE fans rejoice ... a little. On March 21, Spitfire Records will re-issue three classic Purple albums: SHADES OF DEEP PURPLE, THE BOOK OF TALESYN and DEEP PURPLE. Each album will offer selected bonus tracks. In addition, Spitfire will continue their re-release madness with THE FINAL CONCERTS, SCANDINAVIAN NIGHTS/1970 LIVE, DEEP PURPLE IN CONCERT 1970/1972 and LIVE IN LONDON 1974 on April 18...

..."Metal Gods," the film based not-so-loosely on the life of RIPPER OWENS of JUDAS PRIEST, will be directed by Stephen Herek. Mark Wahlberg stars as the lead character, a rock singer who performs in a tribute band but then is asked to join the very band he pays tribute to. Also appearing in the film will be BLAS ELIAS of SLAUGHTER, JASON BONHAM and ZAKK WYLDE...

...DIO's new concept album, "Magica" will be in stores on March 21 and will be followed by a four wee tour through the United States...

..."Brutal Planet" is the name of the upcoming ALICE COOPER CD, due in stores on April 10th. The Coop also plans a summer tour...

...DEFTONES' guitarist STEPHEN CARPENTER has shot a five-minute trailer which will give fans a look at the recording of the band's new CD, "The White Pony," due in June on Maverick Records. ...DAVID GLEN EISLEY and SEVENTH KEY have signed to Frontiers Records/Now & Then Productions. EISLEY sang on the first two GIUFFRIA albums and then moved on to DIRTY WHITE BOY and MURDERER's ROW. His new solo project will feature guests LANNY CORDOLA (Giuffria, Magdallan, House Of Lords), EARL SLICK (Dirty White Boy/Silver Condor/David Bowie), CRAIG GOLDIE (Dio/Giuffria) on guitars; CHUCK WRIGHT (Quiet Riot/Giuffria) on bass and PAT TORPEY (Mr. Big) on drums. ...THE CLAY PEOPLE have been re-added to the MISFITS show this Friday, February 18th at the Showplace Theater in Buffalo, NY. The band will also play on Saturday at the Northern Lights in Clifton Park, NY (with DYING BREED), on March 4 at HalDaddys in Baltimore, MD (with COMPRESSION) and on Friday, March 24th at Bleechers in Salem, MA with DROP KICK JESUS)...

...MOTLEY CRUE's NIKKI SIXX has formed Americoma Records with Beyond Records President/CEO ALLEN KOVAC. ...LILLIAN AXE has bowed out of the Z-2000 Show scheduled for April 30, 2000. The band was forced to cancel due to legal problems for Jon Ster and for personal reasons by Ron Taylor. Steve Blaze issued the following statement: "Due to personal commitments on behalf of Ron Taylor and Jon Ster, we will not be able to perform Z-fest this year. We send our apologies. I  was looking forward incredibly to being in England again, but unfortunately problems arose beyond our control. Thanks for your understanding I hope that we will be there for Z-2001"...
