...The first single from UNION's upcoming "The Blue Room" CD - "Do Your Own Thing" - currently sits at #74 on the FMQB Hot Trax Chart. The band will also play at the Coconut Teazser in Hollywood on February 24th at 10:00 p.m. In addition, UNION will appear at the 2000 Indy KISS Expo, scheduled for February 13th in Indianapolis. Looks like 2000 will be a busy year for UNION...


...NEUROTICA's "Touch the Sound" will be featured in this week's "MTV's Making the Video" featuring N'Sync. The band will also play at the World Reality Combat Ultimate Championship in Dothan on Friday, January 28th and at Jackrabbit's in Jacksonville, Florida on January 29th. ...STEVE VAI and RAY SCHERR (former owner of the Guitar Center chain) have formed Favored Nations Entertainment, a new company designed to open the door for new music everywhere. The new company will be divided into three divisions: Favored Nations Records, Favored Nations Visuals and ProfoundMusic.com. The Records label will be distributed by RED distribution and will release its first title, Frank Gambale's "Coming to Your Senses," in February 2000. Future releases include "Live In Osaka," a collection of live performances by Larry Carlton and Steve Lukather, plus a new album from Gregg Bissonette, former drummer for Vai, David Lee Roth and Joe Satriani. Says Vai of the new endeavor, "I know it is common nowadays for artists to start labels but this is a thoroughly constructed vehicle for inspired talent. ...TWISTED SISTER has joined the fracas over baseball star JOHN ROCKER and his offensive comments in a recent edition of Sports Illustrated. The veteran band has asked the Atlanta Braves to stop using their song, "I Wanna Rock" to introduce Rocker during games. Says JAY JAY FRENCH, co-founder and guitarist for the band, "We've got Hispanics in this band, Italians in this band, people who are Polish and Russian." Apparently Twisted Sister aren't gonna take it...


...Sad to report that artist/poet/writer HELEN WHEELS, who collaborated with BLUE OYSTER CULT among others, has passed away after complications of surgery. ...FRANK VAN GERWEN has left HARROW due to illness. Frank is reportedly furious at the situation but, unfortunately, had no choice. He will be replaced by MICHAEL LEGRAND, who will record the band's next album, due later this year...

...NO DOUBT will release their next album, "Return of Saturn," on April 11. Says singer/songwriter GWEN STEFANI of the new release, "I really did feel like I was going through a transitional phase in my life as I made the album. I think the name 'Return of Saturn' is relevant in the sense that it shows how we've grown as a band and as songwriters." "Return of Saturn" was produced by Glen Ballard (Alanis Morissette, Aerosmith), Jerry Harrison (Talking Heads, Live) on "New" and Matthew Wilder ("Tragic Kingdom")... 


...Just when you thought GENE SIMMONS couldn't think of any more ways to squeeze money out of KISS, the man hits you with another, admirably shrewd, idea. Now, Simmons and band mate Paul Stanley, will join together with Butterfields auctioneers to auction off original KISS costumes, instruments and other memorabilia. Items to be auctioned include Kiss Alive! tour costumes, costumes appearing in New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art Rock Style exhibit, Gene Simmons' life mask from the "Rock Against Drugs" commercial, several guitars, drum kits and other instruments and gear, and several handwritten original lyrics and lyric/composition books, including Gene Simmons' original, handwritten lyrics to the hit songs "Rock N' Roll All Nite," "Christine Sixteen," and "Calling Doctor Love." As of this writing, no date or venue has been set but it is believed that it will be in a live as well as an online setting. More information as it becomes available...

...MARTY FRIEDMAN has left MEGADETH. The guitarist, who has been with the band for over ten years, has chosen to leave the group to pursue other musical interests. Says Megadeth frontman DAVE MUSTAINE "Marty is an incredible player and has been a keystone in Megadeth. We are sorry to see him go but we wish him all the best." AL PITRELLI, who has played with ALICE COOPER and SAVATAGE will replace Friedman for the remainder of Megadeth's "Risk" tour...


...TONIC will play a free show at Jack Frost Ski Resort in the Poconos on Friday, January 7th. The "Day Off at the Slopes" is an annual WMMR live radio broadcast that suggests to listeners that they take the day off and come down and ski  ... and this year get a free TONIC show as well. The WMMR broadcast begins at 9:00 a.m. that day with TONIC taking the stage at the Jack Frost lodge at 2:30 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public. TONIC are preparing for a European tour in support of their new album, "Sugar."...


...Rumor has it that KISS will record several new studio tracks for the upcoming "Alive IV" (recorded this past New Year's Eve in Vancouver, BC) a la "Alive II." In more ridiculous news, the WCW wrestler based on the Gene Simmons character - the Demon - will return for at least 14 more shows... 


...Word is that the VAN HALEN camp is denying all rumors that DAVID LEE ROTH will be returning to the fold. Too bad...

...SMASHING PUMPKINS fans in Dublin Ireland were treated to a surprise set courtesy of the Miller Genuine Draft Blind Date concert there. The show debuted some of the tunes from the upcoming PUMPKINS CD, entitled "MACHINA: The Machines of God" as well as the live debut of Melissa Auf Der Maur, formerly of HOLE, who recently joined the band...


...All 11 tracks from NEUROTICA's "Living in Dog Years" CD have been licensed by MTV Networks for three shows: "Undressed," "Making the Video" and "The Road Home." The band's music will be used throughout the programs as background music, etc. beginning February 2000. In addition, the band is scheduled for four shows in January. Dates follow:
