...MORTIIS has begun working on his new CD, collaborating with producer Rhys Flber (FEAR FACTORY, DELERIUM, FRONTLINE ASSEMBLY, PARADISE LOST). Says Mortiis: "On the new songs, we are focusing more on what I think got a bit lost last time, which is songwriting and continuity. Last time I was trying to make a really angry and abusive record, and I wanted to do everything at the same time because I wanted all this noisy stuff to happen. The distorted noise, electronics, and samples are still there, but these songs are more focused and have a more coherent interaction between the programmed and the organic. ...HELL WITHIN have been to drop off their tour with WAR OF AGES. Drummer Brian "Bubba" Joyce suffered a fractured hand from an "equipment mishap" during the band's first show on the tour. The band released the following statement: "We arrived at a Day's Inn motel (in Portland Michigan), we were about to get a room, and we were taking the luggage out of the trailer. Some of the luggage fell behind a huge road case we use to carry all the drum hardware so we took the road case out to get to the luggage that fell in back. Bubba was inside the trailer, Isaias and I were outside. After getting all the luggage out, Isaias and I pushed the road case back into the trailer. Bubba was guiding it back in (the thing weighs about 200 or 300 lbs.). When Isaias and I pushed it back in, Bubba's hand got caught between the road case and a speaker cab (we had to use some force to push the case in because it was heavy and going up the ramp into the trailer). Bubs put his hand next to the side of the road case to guide it in. The force from the push and the fact that he was in a small, poorly lit area, jammed his hand in between both the road case and the speaker cab and it ended up fracturing his and. We spent the morning at the emergency room. The ER doctor told Bubba that he shouldn't use his hand for at least 4 to 6 weeks. He's on pain killers, his arm is in a sling, and we're heading home with copies of his x-rays to give to his family doctor. The CD was produced and mixed by former MACHINE HEAD guitarist Logan Mader and features Jonny Santos, former lead singer for SPINESHANK. With SANTOS feeling the need to resurface in another band to feed his appetite for brutal metal, SILENT CIVILIAN was born. ...WE ARE THE FURY report from the road regarding a car accident involving the band: "Hey everyone. Friday afternoon we were involved in a serious accident while driving through Colorado. We crashed our van around the Vail Passage area of Route 70 near Breckenridge. We were driving through a heavy snowstorm on our way home from Los Angeles when we hit ice and lost control of our vehicle and slammed into the guardrail. Surprisingly, the guardrail held and we didn't fall down the five hundred foot mountain drop, which is a miracle. As we were sliding toward the edge our trailer jackknifed and snapped off. This prevented the van from flipping and rolling over the side of the mountain, which is a damn good thing because if we had gone over the edge I definitely would not be here describing the accident to you. For the most part, we are all alright aside from being a bit shook up. We all have cuts and bruises from the impact and the air bags, but we feel extremely lucky. However our van was not so lucky. Its looking like the axle snapped on impact, which will most likely leave the van totaled. We are currently looking into rental options to get home and will then be trying to do whatever we can to try and get a new van.
