SAMI YAFFA

"Satan's Helpers, War Lazer Eyes & The Money Pig Circus" (Livewire; 2024)

Reviewed by Snidermann

Sami Yaffa, former bassist for Hanoi Rocks, The New York Dolls and Michael Monroe’s Band (he also played for Billy Idol and Joan Jett and the Blackhearts). Needless to say, he has played in a lot of bands over the years. Now, he is fronting his own band and the name of the recording is "Satan's Helpers, War Lazer Eyes & The Money Pig Circus." Wow! What a title that keeps on giving.

The music is a mix of rock, punk, reggae, jazz, blues and a few other types of music that I have yet to identify and, frankly, that is what makes this recording very interesting. Sami's vocals are rough around the edges and that seems to fit this style of music to a T. Sami Yaffa is one quality musician that has used his experience playing in various bands over the decades to make a very deep and personal recording. He writes about things he is passionate about and that is way cool in my book.

I found myself drawn to the quality and varied range of music and a tongue-in-cheek quality that I find very intriguing.
