XASTHUR

"A Gate Through Bloodstained Mirrors" (Hydrahead; 2008)

Reviewed by Mike SOS

"A Gate Through Bloodstained Mirrors" is a reissue of US black metal merchant Xasthur's debut from 2001, an atmospheric and bleak affair heavily steeped in the underground sound made infamous by acts like Burzum.

This creepy offering is mainly instrumental, and sheds shards of light into the damaged psyche of mainman Malefic, showcasing his cruel intentions to keep things lo-fi and eerie.

Trance-inducing and barren, this re-release is an essential disc for the misanthropic lot who despise mankind on every level.
