WOVENWAR
"Wovenwar" (Metal Blade; 2014)
Reviewed by Jeff Rogers
Wovenwar was born out of the hiatus of As I Lay Dying. Tim Lambesis was the lead singer for As I Lay Dying but he was arrested and plead guilty to hiring an undercover police officer to murder his wife. He is now serving a six-year prison sentence.
Wovenwar have clean vocals and an awesome sound. I know
that this may be a one-off since Tim has the band put on hiatus but that's too
bad; this is the stuff I can crank in the car and at home. Nothing against As I
Lay Dying but I long for the clean vocals of singers. I mean, what
the heck is everybody so angry about? I know, I've reviewed AILD in the past and
I dig their sound and their message so don't push me out of the way just yet.
The guitar is always going on this self-titled monsterpiece. It's got plenty of
hooks and you can jam to every track and the clean vocals give it a sweet sound
that makes it more of a heavy metal record rather than a straight metalcore
disc. Melodic metal is what Wovenwar are selling here plus hard rock and
alternative metal. Wovenwar is not AILD #2 but it will be interesting to see
where this is going. I can tell you this: these guys aim to make great music and
an awesome tour so if you want to see them live then get out and support their
direction.
Wovenwar: Shane Blay – lead vocals, rhythm guitar; Nick Hipa – lead guitar; Phil
Sgrosso - rhythm guitar, programming; Josh Gilbert – bass guitar, backing
vocals; Jordan Mancino – drums.

So-so. You've heard better.
Pretty bad. Might make a nice coaster.
Self explanatory. Just the sight of the cover makes you wanna hurl.
