VENOMOUS

"Tribus" (Brutal Records; 2021)

Reviewed by R. Scott Bolton

There are only four tracks on "Tribus" by Venomous but all four are powered by killer guitar riffs, driving rhythms and growling vocals that all come together to deliver a powerful metal performance.

Track #1, "Eerie Land," starts with a piano and drum intro that is soon overcome by a pounding guitar. At first, the track sounds a little like a standard metal track, with maybe a little progressive play thrown in, but as it moves on, it layers into something harder and heavier, especially when the vocals come roaring in. The other tracks stay in the same vein, with the final track, "Unity," closing out the record with a fast-paced hammering thunder. My favorite track, Track #3, "Duality," features a more laser-sharpened and melodic guitar sound.

As far a melodic death metal goes, Venomous may not offer anything new on "Tribus," but at least ... for the 4 tracks and just over 20 minutes you're listening ... they do it well.
