"Dee Snider's Strangeland: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack" (TVT)
Reviewed by R. Scott Bolton
Right off the bat, we can tell you this about the soundtrack to "Dee Snider's Strangeland" - It's better than the movie.
The soundtrack starts with a telling track by Dee Snider himself, "inconclusion," a song that really tells the audience what Snider had in mind for the style and attitude of the movie he wrote. If only the filmmakers had shared that vision with him, the film might have been a little more successful.
Following are tracks by a tremendous cache of hard rock/heavy metal talent, including SEVENDUST, MEGADETH, PANTERA, ANTHRAX, SNOT, COAL CHAMBER, MARILYN MANSON, SOULFLY, NASHVILLE PUSSY, and a brand new anthem from the original TWISTED SISTER line-up entitled "Heroes Are Hard to Find." These songs alone would make for a great CD.
Unfortunately, there are some other less-than-stellar tracks intermixed throughout the CD as well, including two awful covers of classic TWISTED SISTER tunes, "Street Justice" by dayinthelife and "Captain Howdy" by CRISIS.
All told, the soundtrack to "Dee Snider's Strangeland" is a good CD to pick up because of its impressive cross-section of hard rock styles but is far from a definitive collection.
Rating Guide:
A classic. This record will kick your ass.
Killer. Not a classic but it will rock your world.
So-so. You've heard better.
Pretty bad. Might make a nice coaster.
Self explanatory. Just the sight of the cover makes you wanna hurl.
