"Punk Me Up: A Tribute to the Rolling Stones" (Cleopatra; 2024)

"Punk Me Up: A Tribute to the Rolling Stones." Tells you all it needs to, right? This album is fifteen tracks of classic Rolling Stones tracks performed by legendary punk rock bands. And it works better than many other so-called "tribute" albums because the Rolling Stones' music often had a little punk attitude to them, did they not? Plus, this is one of those tribute albums in which you recognize the song that's being performed, but the band recording it has truly made the song their own. Trust me, you won't be mistaking any track off of "Punk Me Up" as an original Rolling Stones recording.
Check out the track list:
JAH WOBBLE "Start
Me Up"
PETER & THE TEST TUBE BABIES "Mother's Little Helper"
FEAR "Honky
Tonk Woman"
REAGAN YOUTH "Rocks Off"
UK SUBS & DEAD BOYS "Paint It Black"
THE QUEERS "Jumpin' Jack Flash"
JFA "Midnight Rambler"
THE VIBRATORS
"Satisfaction"
ANTI-NOWHERE LEAGUE "Sympathy for the Devil"
FLAMIN'
GROOVIES "She Said Yeah"
SKIDS "Wild Horses"
ANGRY SAMOANS "Miss You"
THE MEMBERS "Angie"
CHROME 'Gimme Shelter"
PINK FAIRIES featuring LARRY
WALLIS & PAUL RUDOLPH "Street Fighting Man"
I liked all of the cover songs here, some more than others, obviously. My favorites were Fear's raw "Honky Tonk Woman," Jah Wobble's nearly spoken word "Start Me Up," Anti-Nowhere League's strangely smooth "Sympathy for the Devil," Angry Samoan's nearly unrecognizable "Miss You" and The Member's stripped-down "Angie."
Rating Guide:
A classic. This record will kick your ass.
Killer. Not a classic but it will rock your world.
So-so. You've heard better.
Pretty bad. Might make a nice coaster.
Self explanatory. Just the sight of the cover makes you wanna hurl.
