VARIOUS ARTISTS
"Freddy Vs. Jason: The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack" (Roadrunner Records; 2003)
Reviewed by Alicia Downs
Soundtracks these days continue to get better. Heavier artists are finding their niche on soundtracks for films, both blockbuster and lackluster. And even if "Freddy vs. Jason" wasn't one of the summer's biggest thrills, its soundtrack is. Take a look at the artists contained herein, ranging from the lighter rock of Seether all the way to Lamb of God. In terms of heavy versatility, the soundtrack has it all.
While no track stands out as a runaway hit, the diverse compilation of heavy metal freshman (and some veterans) makes it worth the price of spin, if not the movie's price of admission.
Some of the songs are better suited as their
original "B-Side" intention, such as Powerman 5000's
"Bombshell" and Stone Sour's "Inside the Cynic." But the
tempting inclusion of acts like Lamb of God and Type O Negative makes up for the
spurts of what seems like nothing more than "left over" studio
material.
Soundtracks are meant to show versatility but most of the time there are only
few tracks or artists entertaining. With the "Freddy vs. Jason
Soundtrack" the thorough list of heavy hitters assures that heavy music
aficionados will find the bulk of the tracks appealing.
