"ECW: Extreme Music" (Slab/CMC International)

Reviewed by R. Scott Bolton

A cool collection of cover songs and remixes and original music produced expressly for Extreme Championship Wrestling and its stars: Joey Styles, Lance Storm, Rob Van Dam, Jerry Lynn, Bam Bam Bigelow, Sandman, Justin Credible, Mike Awesome Francine, Axl Rotten, Balls Mahoney and Sabu.

Frankly, this collection is worth its price alone simply for the MOTORHEAD cover of METALLICA's "Enter Sandman" (you thought the Metallica version was heavy!) and BRUCE DICKINSON's cover of the SCORPION's "The Zoo." However, when you add to that a WHITE ZOMBIE and MEGADETH re-mix, a remake of ZZ-TOP's classic "Tres Diablos" (by Dimebag Darrell, Vinny Paul and Rex) and a cover of Metallica's "Phantom Lord" by ANTHRAX, man, you gotta have this CD.

It ain't without its duds, however. It almost hurts listening to what MUSCADINE has done to AC/DC's "Big Balls."

Also on the CD are KILGORE doing PANTERA's "Walk," GRINSPOON doing "Snap Your Fingers, Snap Your Neck," and MONSTER MAGNET doing "Kick Out the Jams." Also included are two okay original songs by HARRY SLASH AND THE SLASHTONES entitled "This is Extreme" and "Huka Blues."

Rating Guide:

A classic. This record will kick your ass.

Killer. Not a classic but it will rock your world.

So-so. You've heard better.

Pretty bad. Might make a nice coaster.

Self explanatory. Just the sight of the cover makes you wanna hurl.
