TITANIUM BLACK

"Bleed For You" (Great Dane Records; 2004)

Reviewed by R. Scott Bolton

If you're a fan of some of the best bands of the 80s - Dokken, Badlands, Queensryche, Judas Priest, Motley Crue - then Titanium Black is just for you.

Unabashedly bringing back to vibrant life the sound of 80s metal, Titanium Black's debut CD sounds like it was recorded in that era with today's technology. It's an exciting and energetic experiment in giving a new freshness to a classic sound and it works like a charm.

From the flat-out, anthem-like rockers ("Cracks of Lights," "Words") to the slow-but-still-edgy ballads ("Perfect Love") "Bleed For You" is like a welcome visit from an old friend with a great makeover. Fans of Dokken, Stryper, Alice Cooper and "Revenge"-era KISS will especially get into "Bleed For You."

Some of those used to listening to speedier bands like Slipknot and the like may find Titanium Black a little slow for their tastes, but anyone who fondly remembers and still enjoys the classic 80s sound today will find the band just to their liking.

"Titanium Black" was produced by the legendary Michael Wagener of Double Trouble Productions, who also produced many classic albums by Dokken, Accept, Alice Cooper, Raven, Stryper, W.A.S.P. and Metallica. His mastery is apparent throughout this CD.

Titanium Black: Terry Michael LeRoi - Vocals; John Matthews - Guitars; Rob Spagnoletti - Drums; Aaron Worden - bass. Also performing on "Bleed For You" are John Billings - bass; Paul Taylor - keys; Ryu Toshiro - guitars; Brad Henderson - guitar; Scott Brasher - strings; Jim Roberts - percussion.

So-so. You've heard better.

Pretty bad. Might make a nice coaster.

Self explanatory. Just the sight of the cover makes you wanna hurl.
