THE SWORD

"Gods of the Earth" (Kemado Records; 2008)

The Sword's (what a great name for a band!) latest release, "Gods of The Earth," is a high-powered onslaught of metal music that I immediately identified with. This music is just what heavy metal needs right now: a band that is full of power, audacity, thunderous guitars, talent and charisma.

As for the vocals: Well, no matter how loud I played the CD (and I played it loud), I could not understand the lyrics for the life of me. It wasn't the vocal style, really, but rather that the music really drowns out the vocals. Luckily, I could follow along with the CD insert and learned a great story there. I cannot wait to delve into it further.

I think "Gods of the Earth" might have scored a perfect Four Guitarsaws if I could have clearly understood the lyrics without a lyric sheet.

The band is touring with Ozzfest 2008 and I think they're an excellent fit.
