SW1TCHED
"Subject to Change" (Immortal/Virgin; 2002)
Reviewed by Paco
I saw Cleveland-based rockers Sw1tched (yes, that's a one, not an "i") at
this year's Vans Warped Tour and they definitely caught my attention. They were hard, heavy and aggressive, which is exactly what I like in my music.
Their debut CD, though, didn't really live up to their live performance.
"Subject To Change" is a very good hard rock/heavy metal CD. It's solid from beginning to end, with
good production (maybe too slick, in some places), good lyrics and solid songwriting. The only
problem with it is that it seems like I've heard it all before. Sw1tched sounds like a mix of
Alice In Chains, Korn, Slipknot and the Deftones. That's a pretty good mix, but Sw1tched hasn't added much
to it. "Four Walls" and "10 Dead Fingers" are my two favorite songs. "10 Dead Fingers" can be
downloaded (along with Sw1tched's demo CD) on mp3.com.
"Subject To Change" is an enhanced CD that includes a screensaver, a video for "Inside" and a
couple of live songs that you can listen to if you put it in your computer.
Sw1tched is Ben Schigel (vocals), Brad Kochmit and Joe Schigel (guitars), Chad Szeliga (drums) and Shawn May (bass).
Rating Guide:
A classic. This record will kick your ass.
Killer. Not a classic but it will rock your world.
So-so. You've heard better.
Pretty bad. Might make a nice coaster.
Self explanatory. Just the sight of the cover makes you wanna hurl.
