STRETCHER

"Stretcher EP" (Self-produced)

Reviewed by R. Scott Bolton

For some reason, the only band that Stretcher brings to mind is STICK - which is a good thing. First, Stick was a great band; second, it shows how original Stretcher's music is.

Stretcher's five-song EP is impressively recorded and professional sounding. What first caught our ear was the band's songwriting narrative. Each song feels like a full, complete piece, with a full beginning, middle and end. Next, we noticed the band's original phrasing and tempo - at once creeping and driving.  And there's a sense of an  impending audio explosion in each tune that keeps you listening and doesn't disappoint. Their live material is remarkable for its raw intensity and excellent musicianship. A very unique band.

Stretcher: Walker Petibone, drums; Dana DeChaby, guitar; Alex Sheen, vocals; Wolf Knapp, bass.
