STORMWARRIOR
"Possessed by Metal" (Dream Evil Records; 2001)
Reviewed by R. Scott Bolton
This two-track single (originally a 7" vinyl, reviewed here in compact disc form) gives two examples of Stormwarrior's heavy metal style. Track one ("Side Bloody" on the original 7") contgains "Heavy Metal Fire" while track two ("Side Metal" on the 7") contains "Defenders of Metal." From the song titles along, can you see where this band is coming from?
Along the lines of Manowar, Stormwarrior is true metal in the old school style. Heavy riffs, barbed-wire sharp leads, throbbing bass, pounding drums. Add to that mix lyrics about double-bladed axes and fighting for the might of metal and you've got yet another impressive true metal band. (And what could be purer than the lyric "If it's not in thy blood ... thou will never understand!")
Does Stormwarrior do it any differently than any other true / power metal band out there? No really. But they do it well. Well enough, in fact, to earn the attention of Kai Hansen, who produced their recently released full-length CD.
The production on this particular single is rough but the band's sound still blasts through. I have to imagine that with Hansen behind the switches, Stormwarrior sounds even better.
Stormwarrior: Thunder Axe - vocals / guitars; Scythewielder - guitars; Hell Saviour - Bass; Evil Steel - drums.
