STONER

"Hittin' the Bitchin' Switch" (Heavy Pysch Sounds; 2024)

Reviewed by R. Scott Bolton

If you need a fix of speaker-threatening bass throbbing, a heaping helping of Black Sabbath fuzz and the raw sound of a live album, then you're looking for Stoner's "Hittin' the Bitchin' Switch" whether you know if or not.

Recorded live at Altroquando Treviso, this fifteen track demolition of a rock recording will completely level you, driving you into the ground like a pile driver and yet leave you begging for more. From the slower crunch of "Party March, through the chugging thump of "The Older Kids," the killer combo of not one, but two, Kyuss covers ("Gardenia and "Green Machine") to the ultimate band-to-band anthem with a cover of Motorhead's "R.A.M.O.N.E.S.", the cement blanket of Stoner's live sound will leave you out of breath and reaching for the repeat button almost immediately.

But then, what would you expect of a band with members like Brant Bjork, Nick Oliveri and Ryan Güt?

Fans of truly heavy music will find Stoner's live album just the thing to keep their neighbors up all night long.
