THE SPINATRAS
"@ Midnight.com" (CMC International; 1999)

I picked up The Spinatras' "@ Midnight.com" because they were on CMC International Records, once the powerhouse label of heavy metal (W.A.S.P., Iron Maiden, Dokken and Motorhead were all once on CMC). I didn't know what the Spinatras sounded like but figured that they must be in the same vein if they were on the same label.
Well, I was wrong, but I wasn't too wrong. The Spinatras are power guitar pop whose music brings to mind "Unmasked" era KISS with a little punk attitude. Yeah, I know. Half of you have already rolled your eyes, closed this review, and gone onto something with a bit more meat to it. But, really, The Spinatras aren't half bad. Their melodic choruses, poppy but still crunchy guitars and peppy pace make this CD enjoyable if you're looking for something a little less heavy than, say, Cinderella. Anyway, the way I look at it, any CD with an ode to Michelle Pfeiffer can't be all bad.
"@ Midnight" also features an interesting cover of Bob Dylan's "My Back Pages."
The Spinatras: Ross Friedman - guitars; Brian Corley - vocals; Richie Fazio - drums; Ron Giordano - bass, cello and backing vocals.
Rating Guide:
A classic. This record will kick your ass.
Killer. Not a classic but it will rock your world.
So-so. You've heard better.
Pretty bad. Might make a nice coaster.
Self explanatory. Just the sight of the cover makes you wanna hurl.
