SNATCH MAGNET

"Screw, Nut & Bolt" (theBizmo; 2010)

Reviewed by R. Scott Bolton

Snatch Magnet may actually be doing themselves a disservice by having such a frivolous name. The band is actually a pretty good hard rock band, along the lines of Van Halen and Whitesnake; in fact, the lead singer sounds a little bit like David Coverdale. The songs are all well-written and at least a few tongue-in-cheek -- one of the things the band prides themselves on is that they don't take things too seriously and that shows here.

One of my favorite songs on this album is "Call of the Maiden," which is a tribute to Iron Maiden with a galloping Maiden-esque rhythm and lyrics that reference Iron Maiden's songs and images.

Snatch Magnet calls themselves a party band and I can see why: it would be fun to go to a bar and see this band play.
