SKUNK ANANSIE
"Post Orgasmic Chill" (Virgin)
Reviewed by Snidermann
Virgin Records artists Skunk Anansie, with their release, "Post Orgasmic Chill," is a musical experiment in contradiction. At one moment, the music kicks with an intensity that is powerfully shocking and at another, it becomes sickeningly sweet.
When Skunk Anansie rocks, they do it with the best of them. However, when the music slows down, it really drags and becomes hard on the ears. You have to work to really enjoy lead vocalist Skin's vocals - when she sings in her lower range, her voice acquires a sexy, provocative yet challenging aspect that took me a few spins before I really began to understand and like it.
I never got to like her high range, however. It was nothing more than screeching to me. However, when Skunk rocks, Skunk ROCKS!! Very good music, kind of slow in places, but all in all, good solid rock'n'roll.
Skunk Anansie is Skin, vocals; Ace, guitars; Cass, bass and Mark, drums.
