Shattered Soul, hailing from Pennsylvania, have followed up their 11-track debut demo with another demo, containing seven tracks, and titled "Suffocate The Lies." I'm reviewing a three-track sampler of "Suffocate The Lies" - I don't know why I didn't get the full demo, but these three tracks are enough to get a solid idea of what Shattered Soul are all about.

Shattered Soul's style can simply be summed up as Pantera-styled metal with death metal intensity and hardcore aggression. Shattered Soul's enthusiasm brims on each track, keeping things to the point, heavy as heavy can get, and keeping one eye to the underground and another eye on greater success.

I think Shattered Soul do a great job at aiming for, and ultimately achieving, a sought after musical integrity. There's nothing trendy about the sounds heard on "Suffocate The Lies" and it's not hard to imagine Shattered Soul turning a few ears in their direction as they get out their word .

"Suffocate The Lies" was produced by Bill Dodd.

Shattered Soul are Tom Reilly on vocals, Steve Shansky and Rick Nock on guitars, Bob Giesler on bass, and Rob Cochran on drums.

Imagine Slayer crossed with Testament crossed with Overkill. Voila! You've got Shattered Soul! 

Shattered Soul pride themselves on their "true focus - musical integrity" and that focus stands tall throughout their 11-song demo. Each song throbs with a delicious guitar undertone that builds and drives toward the mostly melodic choruses. It's as pure as pure rock gets.

Shattered Soul: Hick, guitars; Rob, drums; Tom, vocals; DJ, guitars; Nick, bass.
