SECOND ECHO
"Evelution" (Spectra Music Group/Tabletop Records; 2017)
Reviewed by R. Scott Bolton
Casey Stickley is an amazing musician. I say this because he played every single instrument on "Evelution." And did all the vocals, too. And he wrote all of the songs (some, with a little help).
That's not the first time somebody has done that, of course. We've reviewed many of those types of CDs here on RoughEdge.com. And many of them have been very good. Some not so much. But I'm pleased to tell you that Stickley's "Evelution" is one of the best I've heard.
Everything about "Evelution" is on point. The guitars sound great, both in performance and production. In addition to everything else, Stickley is an amazing vocalist as well (The piano-backed "The Only One" is ample proof of that). The songs are mostly rockers in the vein of Soundgarden and maybe Alice in Chains (but brighter than that band).
There's apparently a touring band as well and this music would be awesome in a live environment.
Excellent work by an excellent musician. Second Echo's "Evelution" is definitely worth picking up.
