DAIZE SHAYNE
"Live Your Dreams" (New Game Media; 2005)
Reviewed by R. Scott Bolton
Daize Shayne is a two-time longboard surfing champion, so you'd think, "Well, if she's so good at surfing, how good can she be at rock'n'roll?" There are only so many hours in the day, right?
While that may be true, Daize pulls it off with "Live Your Dreams," a surprisingly entertaining 14-track CD that may not break any originality barriers but that is consistent and capable throughout.
More often than not being closer to the Go-Go's than Joan Jett, "Live Your Dreams" is more of a pop rock record than a hard rock record with its radio-friendly choruses and chunk lite guitars. Still, it never comes close to slipping into Britney Spears territory, staying with a more authentic rock style sound from start to finish.
The two-and-a-half chainsaw rating is a reflection of the CD's not-so-heavy style but "Live Your Dreams" features more than one song that will stick in your head long after listening and, heavy or not, that's always a good sign.
