RX BANDITS

"Progress" (Drive-Thru; 2001)

Reviewed by Snidermann

RX Bandits aren't your typical punk rock band. They're not carbon copies of Blink 182 and they're not raw punkers like Rancid. When I sat down to listen to "Progress," what I heard was a totally unexpected musical experience. RX Bandits are a surreal blend of techno, rock-a-billy, swing, punk, classic rock and reggae. I know it sounds strange, but what it is is what it is.

The talent of the musicians shines through this entire release, including the bass (which just fucking shreds throughout), guitars, drums, horns (yes, horns) and vocals, morphing together to create a totally unique sound.

"Progress" is utterly feel-good-drink-beer-and-have-a-good-time music, maintaining its fun quotient throughout even though the lyrics are thoughtful and intelligent.

RX Bandits are fun and very likable; a cool fucking band with a hip sound.

Rating Guide:

A classic. This record will kick your ass.

Killer. Not a classic but it will rock your world.

So-so. You've heard better.

Pretty bad. Might make a nice coaster.

Self explanatory. Just the sight of the cover makes you wanna hurl.
