RON WRIGHT & SPECIAL GUESTS
"Ron Wright & Special Guests" (RDW Publishing Company; 2020)

If you didn't know that Ron Wright was a guitarist of renown, you would realize it after only the first couple of tracks on this self-titled CD.
"Ron Wright & Special Guests" starts out with "Diamond Earring," a big fat guitar song that brings to mind Ronnie James Dio-era Black Sabbath. But if you expect the entire album to stay in that vein, you'd be incorrect. The album struts through classic rock, B.B. King style blues ("Fast Woman's Blues"), ZZ Top-style slow burns ("I'm Always in Trouble") and even a Joe Satriani sci-fi number ("Black Hole.")
There isn't a track on this album that won't have you wowed by the guitar work and the special guests in the title (see below) bring out their best game, too.
"Ron Wright & Special Guests" is a terrific collection of varied tunes that rock solid from beginning to end. I was hooked from the very first track, the aforementioned "Diamond Earring," and the rest of the album didn't disappoint. If you're a fan of impressive guitar work (and, really, why are you reading rough Edge if you're not?) then you'll want to check out this album.
Guests appearing on "Ron Wright & Special Guests" include: Bobby Kimball, Valerie Carter, John Ferraro, Mark Ross, Marcello Vieria, Dave Marotta, Mike Lent, Paul Goss, Chris Minto, Nigel Finley, Dylon Garrison, Scott Chambliss, Richard Bryant, John Prock, Bob Phillips, Dale Ockerman.
