ROCKING CORPSES

"Death Blues" (Inverse Records; 2021)

Reviewed by R. Scott Bolton

Fans of horror rock/metal are in for a treat Rocking Corpses and their new album, "Death Blues."

"Death Blues" is twelve tracks (well, eleven really) of high energy, horror-based rock'n'roll, most of them with something to do with death in the title. For example, there's "There Will Be Death," "Buried," "Drinking with the Dead," "Another Day  in Casket," "Necrophlove" and "Death is Something to Die For." The songs all have that Misfits/Danzig swagger and occasionally burst into death metal vocals.

My favorite tracks were the racing "Derailed" and the simmering and sinister "Drinking With the Dead."

It all works surprisingly well. I love the scary monster vocals (both clean and not clean), the eerie tone and the tongue-in-cheek lyrics. It's a lot of fun from beginning to end and will perfect to play at Halloween parties. Fans of the aforementioned Misfits as well as Wednesday 13, Murderdolls and Rob Zombie will no doubt find Rocking Corpses to fit their taste.
