THE REAKTION

"Selknam" (Mania Records; 2015)

Reviewed by Jeff Rogers

The ReAktion are an electro-rock outfit from "the multiverse." Based on the names of the members, I'd say they are from down South but they actually hail from Vancouver, Canada . If you dig Linkin Park then you'll lean toward the sound of The ReAktion too. I first heard their track, "Synchro," so I posted it on the Rough Edge Newswire (you'd know that too if you frequent the page) because it had a solid sound; cool guitar and real singing. It was sort of a dual assault between electronic and hard rock and it had an orchestral sound behind it. The full bill caught my attention and so here I am reviewing the disc, "Selknam."

This album is streaming on YouTube where it has the lyrics for each track and some spacey artwork as a visual goody. Each band member is shown with glow paint on them. The lyrical content can get deep, no shallow puddle-stomping with these guys, you can feel the layers of the songs through the lyrics. They sing about global awareness and an awakening of society. This is one disc you can cue up and enjoy each track for the cool sounds it emits.

The band: Simon Rojas – Vocals, Guitars, Programming; Diego Sagredo – Guitars, Vocals, Programming; Leonardo Signorelli - Drums , Vocals; Philip Monypenny – Bass, Vocals; Felipe Alvarez - Keys, Percussions, Vocals
