RAZEND
"White Goat II" (Self-released; 2016)
Reviewed by R. Scott Bolton
"White Goat II" is actually two CDs on one CD. You get the band's new material ("White Goat II," tracks 1-7) and the 2013 "White Goat demo," (tracks 8-12). Interestingly, if you didn't know that up front, I don't think you would have ever guessed it. The two CDs merge together almost seamlessly.
Razend play a decent brand of thrash metal and, although they don't really bring much new to the genre, they have the energy to do it well. The songs are all fast and furious, some of them dizzyingly so, and vocalist Corrine van den Brand vocal style gives the band one of their few unique features.
The production is a little murky here and there and occasionally the band sounds a little sloppy (although that may be the fault of muddy production, too). It's important to remember that four of the tracks included here are demos, however and less-than-stellar production should be expected. Overall though, "White Goat II" is a fun, fast listen that makes you wonder what "White Goat III" might sound like.
Razend: Tim Verheijden - drums; Tijn van der Vloet - bass; Arvid Kuipers - guitar; Jos van den Brand - guitar; Corinne van den Brand - vocals.
