RAGING IN THE DARK

"The Passion + The Treachery" (Self-released; 2009)

Reviewed by Mike SOS

Raging in the Dark is a Queens, NY female duo whose six-track offering showcases a shadowy mix of dark-edged alternative rock.

From grunge-laden dynamics found on "Window" to forlorn vocals heard on "Ophelia" to eerie atmospherics of "Human Now," this tandem sets an ominous mood with a Hole-meets-Nirvana-by-way-of-Sonic Youth influence creating their haunting yet inviting aura.

Bolstered by a boisterous percussive clamor and a slew of sinewy riffs, Raging in the Dark have carefully constructed a living monument to a time gone by with reverence and fury intact.
