PROTOTYPE

Prototype's "Continuum" is progressive metal with edge, style and originality. The album cover will give you some hint of what to expect but, until you play the CD, you really don't know what you're getting into.
Combining elements of thrash with progressive metal, the songs on "Continuum" are fast and technical but manage at the same time to hang onto a melodic base. We're not talking cheese-ball "radio-friendliness" here, however; the music is too sophisticated and heavy for that. Instead, "Continuum" has a distinctive, almost eerie sound that is hugely enhanced by the haunting yet powerful voice of vocalist Vince Levalois.
As you might expect, the production here is crisp, sharp and brilliant, further embellishing an already rich sound.
One doesn't so much listen to Prototype's "Continuum" as be immersed in it. It's the kind of CD that's best enjoyed with headphones in a dark room with nothing surrounding you but the music.

What is it that makes a good metal band? That's a valid question. If I knew the answer, why would I bother reviewing new music? I'd always know what to look for.
This I do know: Prototype's "Continuum" is as good a metal CD as I have heard in quite some time. Everything about this CD portrays quality musical entertainment. With each and every cut, the band's musical brilliance never ceases or even waivers.
If you like your metal music progressive, heavy and full of musical expression, Prototype will fit the bill perfectly.
I like this band so much, I'm going to spin their CD again right now. Later!
