PROJECT MARS

"Don't Hold Back" (Self-released; 2012)

Good music comes in many shapes and sizes. There are full-length albums, five- or six-track EPs, or even two track singles. We don't review singles here on Rough Edge (although we play them on Rough Edge Radio) and it's difficult to review EPs, because it seems you get a better idea of what a band is all about if you can listen to nine or ten different to really get a feel for a band.

Sometimes, however, you don't need that many songs to know great music when you hear it. Such is the case with Project Mars and their EP, "Don’t Hold Back."

"Don't Hold Back" is six songs (20 minutes of music) that kick metal ass from start to finish. I have spun this release numerous times and it just keeps getting better and better. The music is fun, direct and easy to listen to. Each and every track on this EP has hooks a plenty and they stick into your brain and dance there until you're forced to go back and listen to the CD again.

This Canadian band is a shining example of what a metal act should sound like. I look forward to hearing more from this band in in the very near future.
