POWERFLO

"Gorilla Warfare" (New Damage Records; 2024)

Reviewed by Snidermann

Music is a fickle bitch. Sometimes you find it and sometimes it finds you. Powerflo and their release "Gorilla Warfare" was the latter. I never know what to expect from a recording I am about to review. Sometimes it just does not click and other times, it hits like a fright train. I would say this recording came in somewhere in the middle.

Simply high quality music right from the start. Nothing fancy, just high quality metal music that needed no bullshit to get its point across. When good music hits you, it is like a slap in the face and you think, "Shit this is good!" Powerflo uses not only metal music, but also a bit of rap lyrics to get their point across without being the whiny crap that I simply hate.

This is their sophomore release and, if this is any indication of the first album, I may have to spin that bitch and I mean soon.

When I listen to a recording, I think of what it would sound like live. Is there too much production to make a viable live performance? Well, in my opinion, Powerflo has the attributes to put on a killer live show. I can’t wait to go back and see what the debut recording sounds like and also what this band sounds live.
