PITCHSHIFTER

"Deviant" (MCA)

Reviewed by Paco

Pitchshifter does not have a very high profile in the US, but a lot of us have heard their music. An industrial-metal band from the UK,  Pitchshifter has been around for almost ten years and has done a  number of soundtracks for video games, including Twisted Metal 3 and Test Drive 5 along with being featured on the "Mortal Kombat: Annihilation" movie soundtrack.

Pitchshifter's newest release "Deviant" has just been released worldwide and on MCA records in the US. Their music is slickly produced industrial metal, similar to something like Gravity Kills.  They use guitars, bass and conventional drums along with extensive samples, sequenced percussion and electronic instrumentation.

Although the production quality of the music is excellent, I found that it sounded very sterile, kind of like the newer KMFDM music.

Rating Guide:

A classic. This record will kick your ass.

Killer. Not a classic but it will rock your world.

So-so. You've heard better.

Pretty bad. Might make a nice coaster.

Self explanatory. Just the sight of the cover makes you wanna hurl.
