PHILLIP H. ANSELMO & THE ILLEGALS
"Walk Through Exits Only" (Housecore Records; 2013)
Reviewed by Jeff Rogers
This album would be considered the first "solo" disc from Phil Anselmo. You know Phil, he's fronted a lot of bands. He's got that raspy, bend-four-fingers-and-extend-one kind of vocal delivery so you know what you're going to get in that department. Some of his other bands, such as Down and Pantera, have a more rocking sound with a hard rock delivery ... but not this one.
"Walk Through Exits Only" is thrash, trash and crash.
It's a forty minute mash-up. It's noisy and bounces off the walls way too much.
I know I'm supposed to bow down to the metal God but this disc didn't do
anything for me at all, even after repeated listens.
The Band: Phil Anselmo - vocals; Marzi Montazeri - guitars; Bennett Bartley -
bass; Joe Gonzalez - drums.
