PANIK

"A Page Torn" (Shrunken Head Records; 2008)

Reviewed by R. Scott Bolton

Panik's "A Page Torn" sounds a little like classic rock with a twist of grunge or emo thrown in.

The melodies are solid and, indeed, sometimes difficult to get out of your head, even after only one listen. The vocals are strong for the most part, although the cover of Judas Priest's "You Got Another Thing Coming" while definitely not bad, once again proves why Rob Halford is considered such a unique vocalist. But at least Panik's singer doesn't try to sound like Halford and instead infuses the track with his own sound.

Perhaps the best track on the CD is "Friends," with its irresistible chorus and verses and its great bass thump.

Fans of radio friendly rock with a modern slant will find "A Page Torn" to their liking.
