NUSE
"Hungwell" (No Joke Records; 2005)

Getting down to the brass tacks of heavy metal music is one of the best benefits of reviewing music and Nuse is one of those bands that does just that. This shit is raw, fast, hard, heavy and no bullshit rock'n'roll.
While listening to this explosive metal storm, I was constantly trying to get a grip on the music. Just when I thought I had it, it suddenly changed and I loved the fact that it kept me guessing.
What this band may lack in talent, they more than make up for in sheer aggressiveness, strong lyrics, raw energy and a cool name for the CD: "Hungwell."
This CD experience is pure, outrageous metal madness.
Nuse: Bob Mangual - drums and vocals; Eric Mangual - bass and vocals; Mike LaMastro - guitar and vocals.

If you just plugged in Nuse's "Hung Well" CD and listened to only the first track, you'd probably be likely to punch the CD out of your machine and never listen to it again. That first track, "Ig," is pretty so-so.
But you can't judge a CD by just one track. And, thankfully, as "Hung Well" continues to play, it improves dramatically, from the second track through the rest of the CD. Nuse is a band that morphs hardcore with speed metal with a contemporary metal edge. Their energy is unflagging, and that rock'n'roll charisma more than makes up for some occasionally average songwriting.
When Nuse rocks hard and fast, they are blistering. There are lead solos on this CD that will part your hair. And, judging from this CD, Nuse is absolutely incredible live. "Hung Well" features the kind of music that will capture virtually any audience instantly and the band's dynamic energy the kind that is happily contagious.
All in all, "Hung Well" is a pretty damn good album. I'd even leave "Ig" on the CD. I'd just put it at the end instead of the beginning.
Nuse: Mike Lamastro - guitars; vocals; Bob Mangual - drums, vocals, keyboards; Eric Mangual - bass, back-up vocals.
