NOCTURNAL BREED
Reviewed by Snidermann
What the hell is "Death Metal" anyway? I thought I would try to find out for myself, so I asked Editor R. Scott Bolton for a sample to review. He gave me Pavement Music recording artist Nocturnal Breed and their latest recording, "Aggressor."
The first thing I noticed was that the music is incredible: hard driving, in your face metal. I really liked it. Then the vocals started - a hard screaming gurgle that was more than impossible to understand. I mean, I understood more words in the Rammstein recording, and they're singing in German! I only understood about 3% of Nocturnal Breed. Scott told me that that's what it's supposed to sound like. Okay. To each his own.
Frankly, this style of music fascinates me, because I dont understand it. However, I think I am going to try and develop a taste for it. It took me years to like rap/rock and most heavy metal fans hate that shit. Maybe Death Metal will be next in my musical evolution (let's wait and see). The one-and-a-half chainsaws for this recording are for sheer musical power alone.
Rating Guide:
A classic. This record will kick your ass.
Killer. Not a classic but it will rock your world.
So-so. You've heard better.
Pretty bad. Might make a nice coaster.
Self explanatory. Just the sight of the cover makes you wanna hurl.
