MUDCRUTCH

"Mudcrutch" (Reprise; 2008)

Reviewed by Jeff Rogers

Fans of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers probably knew about this disc before I did. I never really followed Tom Petty but I've always liked his music and attitude towards record companies that wanted to change his sound. It’s the reason he's always had a following.

Mudcrutch is rock and country rock featuring Mr. Petty himself. He's has always had that country sound but when he amped it up you could tell he knew how to rock. The music on this disc is great and, if you want some guitar music that inspires the gitfiddle player in all of us, then pick up this disc soon.

There are some traditional sounds and a couple of country favorites. "Six Days On The Road" is one of them. The traditional sounds are country flavored and it's all picking and grinning. These rockers have that Tom Petty edge to them.

Mudcrutch: Tom Petty - Bass, vocals; Randall Marsh - drums; Tom Leadon - Guitar, Vocals; Mike Campbell - Guitar, Mandolin; Benmont Tench - Keyboards, Vocals.
