MRS. HIPPIE

"Lotus" (Metal Blade; 2000)

Reviewed by R. Scott Bolton

Mrs. Hippie is a kind of stoner rock with ethereal vocals and a songwriting style that's closer to AOR than anything else. Overall, it's entertaining enough but nothing really stand out, although the band's cover of KISS's "I Want You" comes close.

"Lotus" isn't entirely lifeless but it's not exactly vibrant either. Despite the vocal presence of Joacim Cans (which isn't really very impressive here), this CD is merely passing entertainment.

Mrs. Hippie - Christian Smedstrom, Joacim Cans, Mike Vai. Special guests include Peter Iwers of In Flames on bass guitar and background vocals by Thom Carfors and J. Eklund of Brass Monkey on "I Want You."

So-so. You've heard better.
