MONUMENT OF MISANTHROPY
"Vile Postmortem Irrumatio" (Transcending Obscurity Records; 2024)

I'm a novelist, for crissakes, so it's kind of embarrassing to admit that I had to look up the word "irrumatio" before I started this review. Then, I was sorry I looked up "irrumatio" before this review. Rather than tell you the definition of the word, I'll let you look it up yourself and, once you've done so, you'll get an immediate idea of what to expect on Monument of Misanthropy's album, "Vile Postmortem Irrumatio."
Track one sets up the premise: It's a forty-second intro with creepy music and what appears to be an interview with a twisted serial killer. Is it a real interview? A re-creation? A scripted intro? I don't know ... and I don't want to know, although, based on the band's previous works, it's the real deal. And it's creepy enough to set up what's to come. There are at least two other tracks of this type on the album and they're all quite disturbing.
And what's to come is wall after wall after wall of crushing death metal noise, set to insane, demonic vocals and hellish lyrics, that threatens to suffocate you like a heavy pillow of unforgiving sound. It's not a pleasant listen. Disturbing might be a better word but that's pretty much the point. This is the story of extreme madness that led to unimaginable violence. There are no ballads here.
Fans of death metal in the vein of Cattle Decapitation will find "Vile Postmortem Irrumatio" a fascinating, challenging and troubling listen.
