MONGREL

"Reclamation" (THC Music; 2012)

Reviewed by R. Scott Bolton

Mongrel's "Reclamation" is rough and raw with some of the edgiest female vocals I've heard in a long time. It reminds me a lot of Wendy O. Williams and that ain't a bad thing.

The music is just slightly under-produced, making the guitars raunchy and ragged -- which actually works well for it -- it's got a raw, gravelly sound. It's like a merge somewhere between punk and metal and the energy level is undeniable. The snarling attitude oozes through the music.

This is the kind of CD that's almost impossible not to turn up to 10.

Mongrel: Jessica Sierra - vocals; Adam Savage - guitar; Rev - bass; drums - Dave Kazukiewicz.
