MODERN DAY URBAN BARBARIANS
"Sludgemouth" (Self-released; 2008)
Reviewed by R. Scott Bolton
Based on "Sludgemouth," Modern Day Urban Barbarians is a band that just creates noise.
This CD isn't much more than crashing drum cymbals, discordant guitar, and no melody whatsoever. The lyrics and vocals sound like 60's poetry. It's a bizarre, strange album from start to finish ... and it was really difficult to get through. It reminded me a little of what the futuristic city in films like "Bladerunner" sound like and that's not pretty.
I realize this is experimental music but experiments, by nature, fail as often as not. Those on the really arty edge of rock'n'roll may get into this but for me it was just a cacophony of outrageous noise.
