MERCENARY

"11 Dreams" (Century Media; 2005)

Reviewed by Snidermann

Once again I am given to the task of reviewing a CD by a band with two distinct personalities and both are fighting for dominance.

On one hand, Mercenary's "11 Dreams" is hard-driving, in your face, growling heavy metal yet on the other hand they are in a cathedral, with larger than life sound with a female singer and a piano track. The transition can often be confusing and hard to adjust to.

Technically speaking, Mercenary is a top notch band and everything sounds great. However, the slow sections tend to drag the entire project down. On "11 Dreams," Mercenary would be better off focusing on the rock'n'roll and leave the opera to other bands.

All that being said, I found Mercenary's "11 Dreams" a solid CD by an obviously very talented band and the great team working behind them as well.

Pretty bad. Might make a nice coaster.

Self explanatory. Just the sight of the cover makes you wanna hurl.
