MAZE OF TORMENT
Reviewed by Christopher J. Kelter
Maze Of Torment are Swedish death/thrash that recalls the halcyon days
of American '80s death metal thrash with better production values.
The 10 tracks of "Death Strikes" clock in at 31minutes so don't blink an eye or you'll miss the
musical equivalent of broken glass caressing your ears. Double-bass drums permeate the
aggressive pulse of all the tracks and will leave you breathless.
"The Evil Beneath The Flames" has Slayer written all over it while "The Sadist" sounds like it has
Kerry King as a guest soloist. A hidden track is a very quick instrumental but does little to add to the
overall effect of "Death Strikes." Unfortunately, a majority of the songs are
played at the same aggressive, intense speed; this wears a little thin after repeated listens.
Maze Of Torment are tight like a serpent's constrictive death coil, but lack dynamics which could
make their music much more effective. However, if you like death metal you'll go ga-ga for Maze Of
Torment.
Maze Of Torment is Erik Sahlstrom on vocals, Peter Karlsson on guitars, Kalle Sjodin on bass, and Kielle Enblom on drums.
