MAX BOOST AND THE POWER-UPS
"Remains to Be Seen" (Independent; 2024)
Reviewed by Mike SOS
I never really know what I am going to get when I open a release to be reviewed. I was not ready for this. When I went to this band's website I see this "A Wild Blend of Rock, Roots Music and Electronica That Will Make You Say "What the f#%k!" (Well, I'll take out the symbols in that statement and say "What the fuck was that?")
This dude, Brian Maxwell, plays all the instruments here. His music reminds me a combination of Primus, Brian Eno, Kraftwerk, Tangerine Dream, Nine Inch Nails and a bluegrass band. I have never experienced a website that explains someone's music than the aforementioned website. He does a much better at it than I ever could!
The man's full name is Dr. Brian A. Maxwell, PhD and he is a cell biologist/biophysicist (shit I don’t even know what those are!) This is some weird shit right from the word go: extreme heavy bass riffs, very aggressive vocals, electronic bombshells throughout and very cool and out there lyrics. I was drawn to this music for the simple fact that it was so weird/strange/out there/mind-expanding and any other words I can think of.
"Remains to Be Seen" must be witnessed to be appreciated. If you like any of the bands I mentioned above or that kind of music in general, check this out. All I can say is WOW!
